Mawat

Mawat is an Iraqi Kurdish town some 30 kilometers northeast of Sulaymaniya and very close to the Iranian border. During the early 1960s, it served as the headquarters of the KDP Politburo headed by Ibrahim Ahmed and Jalal Talabani, who were opposed to Mulla Mustafa Barzani. Barzani at times referred to the KDP politburo as the "Mawat Empire."
